MICRO HOME

Microhome is a mobile, prefabricated, and sustainable container designed to provide a home for a young professional couple seeking to escape the chaos of urban life. It is a shelter capable of adapting well to any environment and site the couple may choose outside the city. Featuring a rotational characteristic, Microhome can orient itself in multiple directions, freeing itself from lateral forces without requiring additional reinforcement. On hot summer days, for example, the windows can be oriented away from the intense southern sunlight.

The container's ability to rotate toward the most optimal angle, combined with its ‘floating’ linear layout, allows wind to flow both over and under the unit. This minimizes the need for vertical wall supports, enhancing both structural efficiency and comfort. This adaptability also contributes to the energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness that we aimed to achieve in the design process.

Microhome takes responsibility for its surrounding environment wherever it is placed. Its modular base design allows for permutations and can be transformed into various configurations to suit fluctuating terrain and topography. It is also designed to be a pleasant place for guests and visitors, with the flexibility to be converted into different proportions. Since the couple may occasionally host guests or possibly expand their family in the future, we anticipated stacking an additional one or two floors above the existing 25m² footprint to accommodate those needs.

Interior finishes are sourced from materials available as close to the site as possible, and are warm, cozy, and textured to bring the outdoors in.
